The Northern Territory Government has extended the OC Spray Trial from 31 August 2026 to 31 December 2026.
There are no changes to existing eligibility requirements, conditions or safeguards.
Eligible members of the public can continue to purchase, possess, carry and use OC Spray for lawful self-defence under the current arrangements.
OC Spray is a personal safety tool that may assist a person in protecting themselves during a threatening situation by temporarily affecting a person's eyes, breathing and ability to continue aggressive behaviour.
This extension provides certainty to the community by maintaining existing OC Spray Trial arrangements.
Eligible individuals can continue to lawfully access OC Spray while existing safeguards and compliance measures remain in place.
